Welcome Statement
The Board of Directors and Library Staff welcome you to the Acton Public Library. The Acton Public Library has a collection of over 76,000 items that supports a yearly circulation of over 244,000 items checked out.
Acton is Old Saybrook’s Information Place offering information in all areas including municipal, medical, and career field. A vast array of knowledge is available from the telephone number of Town Hall to the e-mail address of the White House.
In addition, the Library has an adult book discussion club, homebound delivery service, Senior Satellite Library, Literacy Volunteers corner, Community Bulletin Board, magazine exchange. The Library also serves as a community resource center providing education, recreation, civic opportunities, cultural programming, and entertainment in the space available for public use.
The Children’s Library has story times, "Story Time for Wee Ones," Slumber Time Tales story sessions, the "Nutmeggers" a middle school age reading group, and the young adult ‘People Puppet Players.’ Special activities in the children’s Library are the Halloween Story Time, two visits to the K. E. Goodwin School. Other “special” programs are a Halloween party, Santa’s Mail Box, Christmas party with Santa paying a visit and a Library Happy Birthday Party.

Mission
The mission of the Acton Public Library is to serve the Old Saybrook community as an information resource center providing education, cultural, and civic programs and materials through diverse media.
Summary of Responsibilities
The charge given to the Acton Public Library by the Town of Old Saybrook is to provide a learning environment, specialized material, and access to trained tutors. Also, business and career information services, and the environment needed for people to come together and interact with others in the community, Additionally, the Library provides community referral information, information to make informed decisions, materials on current topics and titles to fulfill community residents appetite for information about popular cultural and social trends.
The Library also provides the means for citizens to meet their desire for satisfying recreational experience, formal learning support, general information, government information and lifelong learning support, and local history and genealogy.
